I can't add the subtitle to the totem movie player. Where is the option to add the subtitle ? and how to do it? I am a begginer in Ubantu

give vlc a try.

Open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

sudo apt-get install vlc

now you can launch vlc from the terminal or from Applications → Sound & Video
