audio problem (no audio heard while playing songs)

what audio chipset do you have? Can you type 'lspci' in a terminal and paste the output here? It will give us more info about your hardware.

if lspci did not help, it may be because you have an ISA sound card. Do, what kind of computer is it? E.g., IBM Thinkpad 560x. or Dell GX1 or whatever. If it is not a name brandd, what is the motherboard? Is the sound on the motherboard or from a plugged in card? If it is a card, what brand and model is it?

Viewing your chipset is easier with alsamixer (it's displayed in the left superior corner of the console) but with lspci you have a great view on your hardware. Then you can go to this link :

please help me. i can play d music without sound

I had no audio with totem and other supplied program to ear mp3 and DVX; so i charged codecs asked by the program. After intallation, i continue to ear nothing.
The i provided to install VLC Media Player; now i ear both, but I continue earing nothing with other programs. Why?
