there is audio but no video

When I try to play a video on the totem movie player it plays audio but no video.

the issue is likely a codec one, changing to an user question rather than a bug

Can you please try 'sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras' on the command line (in a terminal window) and see if it resolves the problem?
