Totem plays the Spanish soundtrack even though English is selected.

Asked by JackWilson on 2008-08-20

The problem doesn't happen all the time. Most DVDs play properly in Totem; I first noticed this problem on a rental DVD. The language seems to default to Spanish even though English is selected. If I select Spanish or French (the only other choices for this DVD), the sound stops altogether even if I re-select English. One other note - I don't know if it is related or not, but I can't select any of the DVD menus or select chapters either. The DVD is ok, I tried it on a (*gasp*) Windows system and it worked there.

The problem may lie in Totem then.

I advise you install Ogle, it is a program especially made for playing just DVD's.

Install it by going to Add/Remove Applications in the main main, and then searching for Ogle.

Once it is installed, go to Sound & Video > Ogle and then try your DVD

Does that work?

Yes, Ogle will play the problem DVD correctly. Totem still has its uses, such as You Tube browsing, but between the two programs, I should be able to play all of the videos that I like. Thanks for the solution.
