Subtitles with special letters problem

I Totem Movie Player 2.20.0 in Linux Mint 4.0 it is great, but when loading subtitles there are no special letters signs for languages that have more letters like Russian, Polish, Czech, Estonian instead there are # signs, what to do? are there any patches for it?

Edit → Preferences and here change subtitles encoding (choose one of encoding for your region).
