requires a text/html decoder plugin

I would like to open .mpg file, a small window pop up saying

An error occurred, The playback of this movie requires a text/html decoder plugin which is not installed.

How can I play this .mpg file

mp3 is not an open source format, so it would be legal suicide for Ubuntu to include it in their standard installs. Hopefully by enabling third part software in your Ubuntu repositories then downloading ubuntu-restricted-extras, you will be able to play mp3

It can all be done from System/Synaptic/ then Settings/Repositories then search, find, and apply.

Until I learn more, while in settings, I also set Preferences to consider recommended packages as dependencies with the understanding that ubuntu knows better than I do.
