how to play a .flv file format video

I have video files in the flv format. It can be played in windows but in the case of Linux Ubuntu it failed to play. What may me the reason for this problem?How can I tackle the problem?

You can use MPlayer or VLC to read .flv files.
You can also convert your file into another format with ffmpeg : "$ ffmpeg -i your_original_file.flv new_file.mpg". So you can open it with your favorite player.

flv files are playable from withing in Ubuntu.
Normally just running the file is enough to offer codecs to play them back.

Which apps are you using to play thes file back?
