Totem movie player problem

Asked by Nick

Hi,
actually I'm a new user of linux and I'm trying to learn it. I've ubuntu 5.10 if I'm not wrong. I've a problem with totem because I can't see any video of any format. I've seen that maybe I've to download some decoders. I would like to know if you can help me, explain what I have to do, download and how.
Thanks

Nick

First read this:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats

Chances are if you are using totem-gstreamer you can get away with enabling the universe and multiverse repositories in synaptic, then install all the gstreamer plugins using the gstreamer0.8-plugins metapackage.

Thanks,
actually I'm getting cultured by reading all the documentation on Restricted Formats.
