Asked by Kane

Hello, I'm a new user of UBUNTU. but after installing, I have been unable to axcess the update file. upon startup I get a notification that there is updates to install. I can click on update or show me updates, and it will prompt me for my password and then nothing happens. I am unable to get prefferences to come up. Now there are other issues that I think that the update may solve. But nomatter if I try to use the Icon or get to it through Administration, nothing happens. What can I do?

Can you try the following ?

1. Open Applications->Accessories->Terminal
2. Type :

sudo apt-get update

and press enter. Enter your password and press enter.

3. Type :

sudo apt-get upgrade

and press enter (you shoudln't need to retype your password).

What's the result ?

My problem is the same as Kane's. My system hangs whenever I try to install updates in the graphical mode. Yes, I can update the packages in the command mode. But why can't I do it in the graphical mode? Surely, It would have much more convenient?

Can you help with this problem?
