Could not read DVD. This may be because the DVD is encrypted and a DVD decryption library is not installed.

Asked by Frank A

I used to be able to watch DVDs on my Del E1505 laptop when I was running Windows XP. I'm currently running Ubuntu. Now when I insert a DVD, I get this error message from Movie Player:

"Could not read DVD. This may be because the DVD is encrypted and a DVD decryption library is not installed."

I've gotten this error message with the last two DVDs that I tried to play.

I installed VLC Media Player and SMPlayer but nothing happens when I try to play the DVD, not even an error message.

How do I fix this? Thanks.

Sincerely,
Frank

A new Ubuntu user might find some problems while playing CDs. Did you try using Media > Open Disc in VLC ? There are options for selection in it.

Can you help with this problem?
