Asked by regbutler

After upgrading to 11.10 and I try to play a downloaded video on movie player or media player all I get is a black screen although the time bar is progressing.

Have you tried other players?
Have you installed ubuntu-restricted-extras?
What format are the files in?

Hallo delance???
I have Movie Player; VLC Media Player; Adobe Flash Player Plugin 10; G
Streamer extra plug-in installed.
I have noticed that you get about half a second of picture before the screen
goes black, but the time bar continues to traverse across the page.
I tried a CD which played up on the PC with Ubuntu in my Laptop which has XP
and it worked OK there. That has Windows Media Player and Real Player on it.
I'm beginning to wish I hadn't touch my 10.4 version.

Thanks for your help anyway.
Reg Butler.

What windows does is of zero value, it is a completely different OS with different support and applications.
