how i install suitable codec after installing ubuntu8.10?

hi........... I am monoj & I am absolutely new to linux. I have faces a lots of problem after installing ubuntu 8.10 from a open source . I can't able to install suitable codec for sound . please help me. Thanks;

You can't I guess, because the support for ubuntu 8.10 is out. I strongly suggest to you to use a newer version of Ubuntu, for your security too.

Hi..... actually I love ubuntu. I have already install ubuntu 8.10 on my computor . but I don't known what to do next.when I go to install suitable codec for this , there I shown a legal restriction. I want to learn Maya #D animation through ubuntu ,its beacuse its very safe . So please help me.
