Yeah, me too. The best I've found is this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/156801

It looks like it could be related to the video card. I and the original poster of the bug are both using an ATI Xpress 200M.

I found a fix: Install Feisty's xserver-xorg-video-ati.

Grab the .deb from here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/feisty/x11/xserver-xorg-video-ati

You'll need to run "sudo dpkg -i xserver-xorg-video-ati_*.deb" from the terminal, because gdebi won't let you install old packages.

Thanks again Tom, very much appreciated. Just a follow up question. obviously I disregard my Update Manager telling to install the current version of the ATI display driver, but at what point in it's updates should I accept the update? Or is it just trial and error?

I subscribed to the bug report, so whenever something happens with it I'll get an email. Eventually it'll get fixed, so once that happens and the bug fix is applied, it should be safe to install the new package.
