    Wow. Don't have Video On Demand myself, but if it helps any there is a description at http://www.filesuffix.com/extension/vod.html stating it is just a DivX file. Supposedly, Mplayer will handle that, but I see other possibilities that may be required in Synaptic. Don't have a realistic answer myself, but hopefully that helps someone get you to the right place.
