How do I inrease the volume higher than normal on my Movie Player?

Asked by Dustin Lazenby

I turn the volume up as much as possible on my Movie Player, but I could have sworn that there was a way to make it louder than that cuse some of my downloads have a lower volume than others. How do I increase the volume more than it will let me?

In System > Preferences > Sound, you can increase the global (i.e. for all applications) sound volume above 100%.

If you see the small loudspeaker icon on panel, hover cursor on the icon and scroll mousewheel up (=louder).
Unfortunately in Maverick 10.10 it doesn't show percentage of the volume.
Workaround, adding 'old fashion' gnome volume control applet:
System preferences -> startup applications -> add
Name: Gnome Volume Control
Command: gnome-volume-control-applet
Comment: whatever or none

Logout-in.

## After this it should appear in 'notification area', where also network applet is.
