is antivirus or firewall necessary to install in ubuntu 7.04

I am using ubuntu 7.04 and I prefer to use it over windows. I have not installed antivirus or firewall program in ubuntu. Is it really necessary to install them?

firewall: depends... if you are behind a router: no necessarily. if directly connected: you have to careful about the services running on your maschine.
anti-virus: if you keep your system up to date you are quite safe. still opening any given e-mail attachment is not a good idea.
