how to use the dvd player

I am new to Ubuntu. Movie Player won't play my dvd. It starts up then I get the message, "An error occurred. Can not read from resource."

There are other programs that you can use to run dvds, try to download and install smplayer from the ubuntu software center. It's a good movie player.

Did you install the restricted components?

You need to ensure that you are legally allowed to install such software. It won't ask, but by installing it you do so, ensuring that you have paid the DVD consortium for the rights to decode DVDS (this does not come with your drive).
