Video but no audio in Totem using Ububtu 10.04

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 (upgraded from the last iteration) and get video but not audio on videos downloaded from the web. Iam trying to access video = audio using USB headphones which previously worked on XP video players (Media Player, and Real Player.

What XP does or doesn't do is of no value, XP is a different OS with different support.

Have you installed ubuntu-restricted-extras ? Does the USB audio device wok with other apps? If you are using a USB audio device, did you select it as the sound output device in the sound preferences? If you plug in a normal pair of headphones into the headphone socket on your soundcard, does it wok ok? (This is far easier than messing around with USB nonsense).
