totem gone

Asked by Martijn_Hoekstra

After Update-manager did a distribution upgrade today (was at maverick beta, upgrade to RC coming early?) I found totem to not be installed. Is this supposed to be the case? Is there a replacement moveplayer in Maverick?

Still here on mine... Did you try to reinstall it in the Software Center ?

Nope. I thought it was supposed to be a dependency of Ubuntu-Desktop,
which is isn't.

I didn't try to reinstall yet, because I thought it might be a
packaging bug that still needed filing.

I don't know why it was uninstalled, I still have it. Maybe a bug in the dependencies on Maverick. But apparently it was solved.

Wait, that's odd...

Ubuntu-Desktop doesn't list it as a dependency in Synaptic, but the package itself indicates that it's a dependency of Ubuntu-Desktop.

Is this just stuff being out off sync? If so, how can I check?

The very last mention of totem in my term.log is

Preparing to replace totem 2.30.2-0ubuntu1 (using
.../totem_2.31.6-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb) ...

Unpacking replacement totem ...

which seems perfectly fine.

Then again, in /var/lib/dpkg/status I find

Package: totem
Status: deinstall ok config-files
Priority: optional
Section: video
Installed-Size: 1644
Maintainer: Ubuntu Desktop Team <email address hidden>
Architecture: amd64
Version: 2.31.90-0ubuntu2
Config-Version: 2.31.90-0ubuntu2

A deinstalled newer version. I am now seriously confused.

I do suspect a packaging bug. Where can I file one?

I don't see it as a dependency of Ubuntu Desktop here. It's just an advised package when you install Ubuntu-desktop.

Can you help with this problem?
