It's also not a feature in Ubuntu but people are crying out for it. You should log a bug stating the error(s) you get in totem. You could try totem 2.30.2 if you don't already have it, with this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~barcc/+archive/ppa

You can check with:

dpkg -l totem
