m2ts playing problem in "ubuntu 10.04 amd 64 bit" with these media players: Totem, VLC, Mplayer

Asked by ismail sivri

Hello, when I'm trying to open m2ts file with totem player it said a package is required and it downloaded it. After that I opened the the m2ts file with totem player I couldn't fast forward using the seeking bar. The program screen frozen(not computer) Then I downloaded VLC media player and Mplayer for trying. And VLC player is the best performance(fast forward or anything else, sometimes it closes by itself) -> (that's the program bug I think). and in VLC player doesn't show the elapsed time or total range of video file (for only m2ts files) and the subtitle didn't run with video(only m2ts format) And I tried the m2ts file on Mplayer. But Mplayer doesn't show the true time on the seeking bar( Video length is 2:12:00 but it said 10:12:00) and although the subtitle is also full compatible with m2ts file, it doesn't show subtitle in correct time...

I also wait from ubuntu more than this. Because my first reason to select ubuntu is: needn't install codec pack or player
the second reason is no driver problem
When I installed ubuntu it updates approximately 185 MB, and when I open a MP3 file it said you must download the codec and I shocked. So it downloaded a lot of codec but also doesn't play my m2ts files truely...

I'm new at Ubuntu. So I need detailed problem solving to my question, if there is any other question about my problem I can answer with my possibility..

The machine I installed Ubuntu is Toshiba laptop with these properties İntel Core 2 Duo T5800 2.0 Ghz 2 GB ram 250 Gb Western Digital HDD the graphic card is Intel GMA 4500M HD. Maybe Ubuntu haven't had my graphic card driver, so that is the problem but I don't know where I find the driver problems in Ubuntu 10.04 Amd 64 bit...

Thanks.....

MP3 codecs don't come in the Ubuntu installation CD for legal reasons. You can download them as I think you did.
