can't read dvds

Asked by berenice

hello, I haven't been able to read dvds since the last upgrade (2009) i thought that problem would be solved with the 2010 new upgrade but no. I can read videos (.avi) i can read music but i can't read dvds "error could not read from resource". the computer uploads the dvd cause i have the disc icon and the tittle of the movie on my desktop. i can't rip it either ' failed to retrieved title details for some reason. I don't know what's wrong cause it used to work properly. I tried to install other players like VLC but i didn't change a thing. I'm obviously missing a package of codecs but i can't figure out which one.

Hey Berenice,

Try

sudo apt-get install libdvdread4

sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

And reboot.
