totem movie player cant play mpeg file

totem movie player cant play mpeg file. it install plugin but it cant play. how could i do it? and when I want to open it to play, it switches off, what can I do to fix it?

Verify that you have installed ubuntu-restricted-extras (replace with: kubuntu-restricted-extras or xubuntu-restricted-extras if you're using one of those versions).

From terminal you could use: "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras" or search for "restricted extras" in Ubuntu Software Center.

You could also try playing the file in VLC (sudo apt-get install vlc) if the above fails.
