DVD Player in Dapper Drake

Asked by dawaves

Hello,

Is 'MoviePlayer' supposed to play movie DVD's or am I supposed to install 'xine' or 'mplayer'?

If so, can someone point me to the .deb installs of a dvd player for Dapper Drake?

Thanks!

Hello,

I suppose that your problem is connected to restricted file formats in Ubuntu Linux and not a matter of player. So you need a pack of codecs in order to play restricted formats.

Go to this page and follow this HOW TO
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats

I have installed xine after trying lots of stuff.
It failed because it said there was no MRL
HOWEVER,
I then installed the totem-xine files. This meant unistalling the totem-gstreamer.
Totem now plays DVDs better than have seen it doing.
I used ogle with Badger
I doubt if it was codecs for ordinary dvd play but I am an ignoramus who just pushes buttons until I get what I want.

I had no problem getting realplayer 10 on board using that wiki url exept that I hate it. It handles bbc.co.uk stuff well enough,

I got it finally...wow, no wonder Linux can't catch on universally, b/c the
average person can't figure this stuff out. Why are there multiple
repository sites: multiverse, universal, etc? Why can't there be just one?

Anyways...thanks for your help guys!

i have dapper drake 606 installed and i use VLC player to watch DVD iso movie, directly from DVD iso

it´s not a clear menu, but is possible to do it, you have to know the iso file route, and put it on open a video player.

iso full functional with menus....

k9copy to make iso
i hope that helps you
