Thanks for your question.

Tomcat 5.5 is "safe to use", whatever that means :-).

Just install Tomcat via "Add/Remove" or a terminal ("sudo apt-get install tomcat5.5"). There are tons of Tomcat documentation available, e.g. http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/index.html.

Just feel free to ask again if you experience any problems with it.
