Possible to add NNTPS support?

Asked by David Marsh

Is it possible to compile the binary with the "--with-nntps=[libtls|openssl|gnutls]" flag, which would enable NNTPS support?

On "Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS" and "tin 2.6.2 release 20220130" when using the "-T" flag I get:

rtin: invalid option -- 'T'

according to the tin man page (http://www.tin.org/bin/man.cgi?section=1&topic=tin), the -T option is used to:

-T Enable NNTPS (NNTP over TLS). Only available when reading
                   via NNTP.

Here's the entry from configure --help

--with-nntps=ssl enable NNTPS, needs LibreSSL, OpenSSL or GnuTLS
                   possible values: libtls, openssl, gnutls

As far as I can see, starting with Ubuntu 23.04 (lunar) the compilation options already include "--with-nntps=openssl"

I see several options:
1. Upgrade your system to Ubuntu 23.04
2. Try manually installing the tin package for Ubuntu 23.04 on your 22.04 system (this may work well but can also fail with all kinds of undesired effects - no warranty given)
3. look for a PPA that offers this (I did not see any yet)
4. create a PPA of your own
5. compile the package locally on your system
6. request a backport of lunar's version to jammy and kinetic (via a bug report)
