tilix 1.7.9 backport for 18.04

Asked by Behrooz Nobakht on 2018-05-23

Hi there,

Would it be possible to also backport tilix 1.7.9 to Ubuntu 18.04. I am aware that the main issue is
in backporting PCRE support in VTE. If not, what's the best way to build sources to this end to be
able to use tilix 1.7.9?

Thanks,
Behrooz

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/test4
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install tilix

Should do it. Obviously this comes with the usual caveats of a PPA. It also has python-backports-shutil-which so you may want to disable the PPA after installing tilix if this is a production machine.

After adding the PPA and updating the repository:

$ sudo apt-cache policy tilix
tilix:
  Installed: 1.7.7-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 1.7.7-1ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 1.7.7-1ubuntu2 500
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

And based on the PPA, it seems that tilix has failed to build.

You could contact the PPA maintener to see what's going on

Ubuntu is not targeted at using the newest and bleeding edge versions of software.

Nevertheless I see a possibility for the following:

Download and manually install libgtkd-3-0, libvted-3-0, tilix-common and tilix in the version for cosmic (and eventually additional packages if needed).

You should do this first in a test system or a virtual environment to make sure that you do not break your system.

Vte-WARNING **: 13:54:39.613: (../../src/vtegtk.cc:1906):int vte_terminal_match_add_gregex(VteTerminal*, GRegex*, GRegexMatchFlags): runtime check failed: (g_regex_get_compile_flags(gregex) & G_REGEX_MULTILINE)

^I have this bug.

So my tilix will not come with any color scheme

Can you help with this problem?
