How can I install thunderbird 3 when I have 2 and 3 isn't in the Synaptic Package manager library yet?

I have thunderbird 2, Ubuntu 10.04 with Kubuntu - Desktop installed, and the check for updates feature on thunderbird 2 is disabled.

Download from here: http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/all.html
- Save the xxxx.tar.bz2 in your home directory
- untar it: tar xvjf xxxx.tar.bz2
- make a desktop or better a toolbar launcher that call /home/.../thunderbird/thunderbird
- change the launcher icon /home/.../thunderbird/chrome/icons/default/default24.png
