Email Setup in Thunderbird

Asked by John Rosing

My email works on WINDOWS but not in MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD. Apparently my setup is wrong.
The mail account in WINDOWS is Q.COM EMAIL
The name is JOHN ROSING
The email address is ROSINGJ@Q.COM
A check-mark is placed in "include this account to receive or synchronize etc"
The incoming server is POP3.LIVE.COM port 995 requiring SSL
The outgoing server is SMTP.LIVE.COM port 25 requiring SSL
The account name is ROSINGJ@Q.COM
------------------
The THUNDERBIRD startup requires a password for "rosingj@q.com on pop3.live.com" and I am confident that I am using the right password.
When I click on Get Mail, I receive 2 test messages that I sent from within WINDOWS
When I write a test from THUNDERBIRD the message fails with "Please verify that your Mail & Newsgroups account settings are correct and try again"
-------------------
What am I doing wrong?

Hi John Rosing,

Have you already configure the Outgoing Server (SMTP) on your Thunderbird?
Edit > Account Settings ..
Then scroll down on the left side, you will find Outgoing Server (SMTP). Click Add.. then fill the form with your SMTP's setting.
Description: LIVE.COM
Server Name: smtp.live.com
Port: 25
Mark the SSL

When ssl is checked, the port will change to 465. If your SMTP's port is 25, you have to change it with 25.
Have a nice try, Sir... cheers..

I have solved this problem:
When I open THUNDERBIRD I automatically go to the inbox on one of two accounts. The "All Folders" account shows the names of these two accounts (in my case "John Rosing" and "rosingj@q.com")
The opened account is "rosingj@q.com" , not "John Rosing"
When I go to account settings I first go into "John Rosing" where I can edit the following: Server Settings, Copies and folders, composition & addressing, Disk space, Junk Settings, Return Receipts, Security OR the 2nd account "rosingj@q.com" and within that Disk Space, Junk settings
THEN I can edit the outgoing server (SMTP) When I edit this both incoming accounts are ignored.
THE ERROR WAS !!!! THE SECURE CONNECTION CHOICE which was NOT the same as in WINDOWS, it was not SSL but TLS, if available.
This confusion is extreme and compounded by the fact that my mail server QWEST does not support THUNDERBIRD or any LINUX products.
Further confusion comes from the fact that there are two separate Account settings (Incoming) one of which is removable the other is not removable. The "John Rosing" account is removable, but the "rosingj@q.com" is permanent and can not be removed, only the name can be changed.
