When will Thunderbird 68.9 be released for 20.04?

Asked by Frank A Gould

I am migrating from Arch Linux ARM to Ubuntu 20.04 on RPi4B but cannot complete this migration due to Thunderbird version 68.8 on 20.04 and ALARM Thunderbird is version 68.9. I cannot load my Ubuntu Thunderbird because of the version differences. Thus, my question. Just an idea would be helpful so I can note when to check back for the upgraded version on Ubuntu 20.04. Alternatively, if there is a way to cross load the versions, I will certainly do that as long as all remains functional.

Considering that version of Thunderbird is 2 days old I would expect a little while longer. Firefox and Thunderbird are kept pretty up to date in Ubuntu so just keep an eye on the packages and it will come soon.
If you report a bug and the bug and security fixes are significant then the package will be updated even sooner but again, these 2 packages in particular are targeted to be as up-to-date as possible

This is already in progress, see https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-security/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
You have to expect a certain minimum testing period, so please be a bit patient.

Thank you for your response. I'm not in a hurry but wanted to ask because I expected 20.04 to be the latest release for all packages. Glad to know Ubuntu has it under control.

Ubuntu is not a rolling release distribution and packages can be left in favour of one's with actual issues. It's very unlikely that Ubuntu will have the latest package versions for most of the OS.
