Will v68 be coming to Xenial/16.04?

Asked by Matt C

Can we expect v68 on Xenial/16.04?

Is there anything a newbie can do to help?

Thunderbird and FIrefox are kept quite up to date

You can get it from here
https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/

This explains it nice. I suggest you put the application in /opt/thunderbird rather than running the application from $HOME
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1170210/install-new-thunderbird-68-under-ubuntu-that-have-older-one-in-repository

There may be a PPA which will gel with your package system better

I am quite sure that also for Ubuntu xenial sooner or later Thunderbird version 68 (or higher) will be published.

What I currently see is that version 68.2.1+build1-* is available in bionic-proposed, but it seems that something went wrong - Bug #1850064 and Bug #1852097

My guess is that the bionic problem will be tackled before a rollout for xenial will start. So please be patient.

@actionparsnip Thanks. I was looking at a non "apt" installation, but thought to ask here first.

@Manfred Happy to wait, just wanted to find out if it was on the cards.

v68 is already available for bionic beaver (18.04). I am hoping 16.04 is the next on the line. Nothing I can do to help, unfortunately. Just a noob here.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Matt C for more information if necessary.
