No audio in Skype conversations

When using Skype, audio is permanently muted on one end depending on who made the call. In my audio it shows :

In the sound settings
on the application screen:

two lines like this:
The universal no access sign, the red circle with a line drawn let top to right bottom, then Skype and a slide indicating the volume used.

How can I turn that off?

I have a screen shot of this and can upload it once I find a way to do that.
