Skype for Linux does not pass audio from caller

Since upgrading to 18.04LTS, Skype will show the other parties video but the audio is muted and can not be un muted. This is so on 2 systems. To try and get around this problem I installed the latest version of Skype for Linux. That did not help. Both audio and video are sent to the other party.
