message remains on server after moving to local folder

Asked by bmcwilliams

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Sometime around the end of October, 2007, Thunderbird stopped deleting messages from the POP server when the message is moved to a local folder. Prior to that, moving messages to local folders deleted from server upon next server contact.

Deleting messages still works and deletes from server. Filters that specify deletion from server as an action still works.

This problem occurrs using ssh via port 995, and when handling email unenecrypted on port 110. "Server Settings" configured to "leave message on server", "for at most 90 days", "until I delete them." "Folder properties" "retention policy" set to "use server defaults." These settings have not been knowingly changed.

Ubuntu 7.10, 32bit, all updates current. Direct connection to internet. Thunderbird was auto-updated around 10-22-07, which appears to be coincident with this problem.

I guess this was a change in 2.0, and I just took longer to notice it:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47297

The ability to delete from server on MOVE is now a hidden preference. In Config Editor, set:

"mail.pop3.deleteFromServerOnMove"

to TRUE.

Then old functionality is restored.

Moving to questions instead of bugs...

There was a hidden config change. This can be user-corrected.
