how to install thunderbird

I downloaded thunderbird 11.0.1.tar.bzs, to upgrade the one that i had, dont know how to install tar files, please help

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/thunderbird-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install thunderbird
