I "upgraded" my Thunderbird email program: now doesn't work

Asked by Saul Lubkin

I use Mozilla Thunderbird for my email program.

This morning, the ubuntu update manager appeared, and recommended updating to a new version (version 1.16, I think)
I did. But since the upgrade, thunderbird doesn't work: New emails show, but when I click on any email -- new or old -- the new version of thunderbird hangs.

I tried using "apt-get install --reinstall thunderbird-1.15"

apt-get replied something like "thunderbird-1.15: version not found".

I also uninstalled thunderbird, and then reinstalled it -- the new, buggy version came up.

Help very, very greatly appreciated.

(BTW, my current version of Ubuntu is 10.04.3 LTS)

Problem solved!

I solved my problem -- by a very simple procedure.

I moved my .thunderbird file to .thunderbird-bak, and simply started up the new version
of thunderbird -- it worked perfectly. (I had to setup my email account again, but that was easy).

:)
