Mail will not send in Thunderbird 7

I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and Thunderbird 7 after setting up I can receive OK but not able to send, have checked all settings and can see nothing wrong, my mail account is with 'talktalk.net' I havn't had this problem previously and have used Thunderbird for a long time (I performed a clean install when upgrading to Ubuntu 11.10.
