Anyone on teamviewer? Need help with my desktop, thunderbird, cairo, etc.

Asked by Matthew Forte

I was wondering if someone could connect with me on teamviewer and help me transfer my thunderbird info from my old computer to my ssd. Also get my cairo working, cause i added it to my startup and still not showing. Also xplanetfx isn't working on my new ssd desktop. Also help with transfer my old pidgin accounts from my other hard drive. And how to get on the ubuntu channel (IRC) or whatever with pidgin cause I've never done that before. Thanks.

To backup thunderbird just copy ~/.mozilla/thunderbird
To copy pidgin you need to copy ~/.purple to the new system

Why do you not have a backup already!?

I've tried that already. Didn't work. That's why I am wondering if someone can share my screen with teamviewer. I have a ubuntu one account. Just want some help ironing out all the edges on this thing

I also sold my old hard drives, but havn't backed up all my old movies and music. Is there a cheapest option for all this or best option?

That's how you copy settings across. Did you chown the data to the local user on the new system too?

Why do you not have a backup?

I know. I read the directions online from someone else, and tried it and it didn't work. That is why I am asking for someone to physically login to my computer and try to do it on teamviewer who is more familiar than myself on how to do it.

Run the apps so the folders get created, then copy the backups over the top. You will then need to run:

sudo chown -R $USER:$USER /home/$USER

(as it is, don't change it) and it will give your user ownership of the files.

No as I am at work. Just open a terminal and run the command. It's that simple. Inviting complete strangers onto your system is NOT wise either.

That's normal, the rest should be fine

I don't get what you mean by the rest should be fine. I have the .thunderbird folder, but no luck with any of it. Cairo won't open. Can't install xbmc. Can't open xplanetx or run it as my desktop. Pidgin isn't connecting to facebook. Just could use a lot of help tweaking this thing the way I want it. Wish someone could just login to my screen with something like teamviewer who knows what they are doing and help. I don't like having all these little things that I can't fix. Its annoying.

Can you help with this problem?
