You could add the mozilla ppa but it also may upgrade firefox to minefield if you are not careful. Karmic support dies next month so you may as well just upgrade to Lucid or Maverick (or hang until Natty is released) and get a more recent version

so you ran:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get --reinstall inistall thunderbird

For thunderbird 3.3 run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get --reinstall inistall thunderbird-3.3

Did this happen?

You should then also run:

sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa

To remove the PPA
