How to install Thunderbird 3.1 in Ubuntu 10.10?

Asked by SK Iyer

I have downloaded Thunderbird 3.1. Opted for 'open' option instead of 'save' option, thinking that it would install on its own. But nothing had happened. Mine is Ubuntu 10.10 version. Thunderbird does not appear in the Ubuntu Software Centre lists. Would be grateful for proper and detailed guidance. I am a novice and hence, repeat, please give me a detailed guidance. Thank you.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa ; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install thunderbird; sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa

Will give you Thunderbird 3.1. The last section of the command removes the PPA or it will give you the development release of Firefox 3.xx codeneamed Namaroka
