At last, some testing I can help with. Here's my initial testing for the "Show file size in binary format" check box.

Reneabled the dev PPA and upgraded to xfce 4.12.

As expected, the very first file moving operating caused both thunar windows to crash.

Then I toggled the check box in thunar's preferences, logged out and then back in again.

No crash when moving the file.

In fact, I haven't been able to make thunar crash at all now, *regardless* of the check box state.

The best way I can describe the behaviour I am have experienced is something like to this...
1. Upgrade to new thunar. The binary setting is set to null by default, which produces the crash every single time a move operation is tried..
2. After checking the box, the setting is changed to an acceptable value, 1.
3. Toggling the check box, the setting is changed to a different acceptable value, 0.

Because the setting is never changed back to null, the crash seems to stop. Both 1 and 0 are acceptable values.

I'll keep testing and if I get a crash I will post back.

Does that make sense.
