I want to know all the commands for compiling a latex file in terminals of ubuntu 10.04...I have installed latex in my system but what are the process(writing and compiling a .tex file)...how to give the input file name in terminals?

Install the LatTeX and dependent packages on ubuntu:

apt-get install texlive-latex-base

Then follow the HowTo file here:
http://mike.marineau.org/blog/howto/2007-02-22-basic-latex-howto

(Instead of xpdf use "evince" the default document viewer on ubuntu to view PDF files if you produce them.)
