syslog-ng package 3.5.6-2.1 on Xenial 16.04 removes /dev/log link and does not link /etc/systemd/system/syslog.service

Asked by Rico

When installing syslog-ng package 3.5.6-2.1 on Xenial 16.04

By default /dev/log is linked to /run/systemd/journal/dev-log

When installing syslog-ng package 3.5.6-2.1 on Xenial 16.04, the /dev/log link is removed and a new /dev/log socket is created.
Also, /etc/systemd/system/syslog.service -> /lib/systemd/system/rsyslog.service is left as a dead link instead of linking to /lib/systemd/system/syslog-ng.service

Is this expected behavior? This state breaks journald logging to /var/log/syslog
