Ubuntu Vivid, extlinux failed to create extlinux.conf configuration file

Having installed extlinux, I still don't have the extlinux.conf configuration file, so I do it manually again:

% extlinux --install /boot/extlinux
/boot/extlinux is device /dev/sda7

% dir -l /boot/extlinux
total 116
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 116632 May 1 21:21 ldlinux.c32

According to the official docu at http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/EXTLINUX, "extlinux --update /boot/extlinux" will
generate extlinux.conf under /boot/extlinux, and it has always been working like that before, until I'm testing it under Vivid.

Is the extlinux under Ubuntu Vivid broken?

@andrew-woodhead666. I'm using root, note the prompt different?

@Manfred, I'm afraid you didn't read carefully,

- The question I'm asking here is `extlinux --install /boot/extlinux` not being able to generate the extlinux.conf configuration file.
- The question I'm asking there is the `extlinux-update` command is missing from the Ubuntu Vivid repo.

How could that two possibly be the same thing? They are talking about two different commands.

Moreover, the Background link you posted there, https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=757, talks about syslinux bootloader integration problem, which will occour when set EXTLINUX_THEME="debian" in `/etc/default/extlinux`, and OK when etting EXTLINUX_THEME="".

I don't have that syslinux debian installed, so that answer doesn't even answer my first question, let along this one, which depends on no extra theme/addon at all.
