open office 3

Asked by Fred

Sirs:
After waiting over a month for open office 3 to show up in synaptic. I gave up and went to openoffice.org. lo an behold open office said there was a .deb package. So I downloaded it, tried to use deb package installer to install. first like it said I un-installed open office 2.4 everything I could find. Then I ran deb package installer seemed to run. went to applications, office, nothing. did search on open office lots of stuff came up, lot of it showing broken links, went to writer tried to open, broken link, went back to package tried to run package installer again, said there were missing dependency, went to synaptic did search for open office dependency only thing It could find was dependency for for abiword- plugins-gnome which I do not have installed.

SO HOW DO I GET AN INSTALL FOR A COMPLETE PACKAGE FOR OPEN OFFICE 3.0, OR DO I HAVE TO GO BACK TO 2.4

There are a number of installation guides on the net. Here is one that seems simple and verified by commenters:

Bengt,

These instructions worked Perfectly, Thank You for such great Help with this. Even though I liked v.2.4.1
in Open Office, I do like the v.3.0.1 version much better, Installed and working without one hitch at all.

Thank You very Much,

Marine

THAT DOES NOT WORK ON MY SYSTEM. NOTHING SHOWED UP IN UPDATE MANAGER. Sources.list shows the two places suggested. So I guess what I will do is move the packages I got from open office to my external hard drive, disconnect it, --purge remove then try again with update manager to see if anything comes up.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS
