what do i do when my computer tells me "Failed to resolve broken packages, because of a Failed dependency problem?futhermore last week it had pre-install all it's needed updates, which hadnt ben done in 2yrs,but right be4 they werefiinished power outag

Asked by January Poche

first last wk my laptop was in the middle of upgrading after 2yrs, in the mist we had a power outage, when I turn it back on the updated had been half completed. because I'm new to this layout of a program as well as the terminology ,unlike windows.nevertheless after just browsing I found synaptic package so I reloaded all it's program. But it came back saying that I had a broken package.so I then applied fix broken, it than came back that Due To DEPENDENCY PROBLEMS IT FAILED TO RESOLVE<>"IT ALSO SAID THAT IT COULD BE BECAUSE IT WAS BEING "HELD"..WHAT THAT MEANS I DO NOT KNOW"! MY "ONLY GUESS WOULD BE THAT WHEN IT WAS IN THE MIST OF UP GRADING THAT IT WAS TAKING PACKAGES OUT TO REPLACE WITH UPGRADE ONES & SOME WHERE IN MY SYSTEM IT'S BEING HELD.SO AGAIN I'm UNFAMILIAR WITH YOUR TERMINOLOGY & WHERE TO LOOK OR KNOW HOW TO BEGIN TO FIX.PLUS I NEED IT TO HAVE A BLUE-TOOTH INSTALLED WITHOUT HAVING ANY MORE PROBLEMS,IT'S A NEW COMPUTER THAT'S BEEN IN STORAGE FOR 2AN AHALF YRS
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME & ATTENTION

sincerely yours
  January

There is a detailed trouble shooting guide for problems with the package manager.
You should go through it and see if you can solve the problem.

Can you not post in all caps, its unecessary and looks like you are shouting.

What is the output of:

sudo apt-get update; lsb_release -a

Thanks
