in 7.10 Synaptic Error in reading sources

Asked by Gregg

Binary package hint: synaptic

After updating 7.04 to 7.10 I have tried to use the Synaptic package manager, it opens with this error:
E: Type '<!DOCTYPE' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

How do I find medibuntu.list ? and what do I do about this?

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better.
Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report and subsequently we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at [WWW] https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs.

You probably have accidentally corrupted your /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list file.
Probably there was a web server/site error, when you automatically have downloaded the sources.list snippet.
See this FAQ about how to fix it:
FAQ #41: “apt error: “The list of sources could not be read."".

Can you help with this problem?
