DVDs exist in a lot of forms and for most you need a decoder, the best way to solve most of your problems is by installing ubuntu-restricted-extras, though keep in mind that in certain countries it isn't permitted to download, install and use mp3 decoders, dvd-decoders etc. due to legal stuff and royalties. (though nobody really listens to that ;) )

Kiru,

What you are looking for is to enable support for Restricted Formats.

You will want to refer to the following two pages.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask kiru for more information if necessary.
