Synaptic Package manager cannot mount cdrom

Asked by TossedSalad 999

Synaptic package manager cannot add a new repository as cd. It returns error "cannot mount cd rom" tho the
cd browser comes up and the brand new disk is spinning fine. 10.04 amd64 Ubuntu.

The disk is newly burned and brand new. I reinstalled via pkg manager the synaptic package and didnt change a thing with the problem.

Re same question back in question 166272, dx help was to:

~$ dmesg | tail; lsb_release -a

these are the results:

This above question 166272 created a bug report #814452, which provides no further info.

re:question 112976, same, user didnt solve actual problem but sideswiped it instead.

diagnostic advice to 112976: /etc/fstab i.e. # out the cdrom mentions - taken:
there are none in fstab mentioning cd or cdrom.

nothing wrong with brand new just-burned dvd -
could it be that dvd isnt reading as it keeps specifying to
put in a CD ROM within synaptics package manager??

(The drive in general reads dvds just fine such as install dvd). Has there ever been a bug fix if bug page doesnt say so?

Need to add dvd as repository for already downloaded many files towards installing a big program, and synaptics package manager cannot see that they exist on the 10.04 system already. Thanks

Have you tried mounting the ISO instead of using optical media. It will be faster and is more reliable.

Can you help with this problem?
