synaptic package manager can't install security items
When I installed Ubuntu 11.04 I saw 3 origins in Synaptic Package Manager.
All - 1367 listed 1358 installed
Local - 1354 listed 1358 installed
Natty-security/main (security.
1358 installed
The installed packages are -- libgssapi-krb5-2, libk5crypto3, libkrb5-3, & libkrb5support0
When I tried to install the remaining 9 packages, 2 of them seen Broken ( krb5-multidev & krb5-user ) . Synaptic Package Manager can't mark 'libkrb5-dev' for installation. The window says so.
1358 items seen in ' installed (local or obsolete).
Run 'uuntu-bug' shows apport-gtk. But can't continue. How can I overcome these problems?

To clean-up maybe try command line instead of GUI.
Close all GUIs, e.g. Synaptic, Software-Center, Update-Manager.
Open a terminal: ctrl+alt+t
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get clean
Update package list and system.
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

You need to assign a package, otherwise apport doesn't know on what to proceed.
ubuntu-bug krb5

Unless there is a locale repo available, update and upgrade need an internet connection.
Update tries to fetch newest package list and upgrade shows installation candidates.

Without installing any additional item I face the problem mentioned above. Just before reinstallation I had faced some problems. I had 90 items in security packages and among them 2 'abrowsers', so many 'chromium' packages and 'php' items...all these in security.

Example of Natty sources.list. (The commented '#' or '##' lines do nothing)
http://
Try with 'main server' enabled.
https:/
Usually the order starts with 'main'.
Another example can be generated and tested there, it'll display repos in one line and without comments what they mean.

Today I see some changes in Synaptic Package manager. Security.ubuntu.com disappeared. In its place I can see natty-security/

'Third party sources' was enabled in the Update manager when I saw it first. But not now. Since the source.list is like this, which is the first thing I should do?

It's obviously missing lots of repos. Replace content and try this one.

During the procedure make sure Synaptic and other package management GUIs are closed, after saving the file update via terminal.

I didn't install any new item. Altogether I have 22 items in my File System, 220 items in /etc/ and 10 items in /apt/. But there are nothing in preferences.d, sources.list.d, and trusted.gpg.d.
When I clicked sources.list the window appeared was of 'Software Sources.' So nothing could do with it. [ AFTER I clicked 'Yes,sign me in', just before the next window appeard, in the fast changing part at left bottom corner, the last one appeared was ssl.google-

Yep, software sources is assigned as default app.
You need to open sources.list via terminal, remove your content and replace it as suggested above. No need to download, just copy and paste the content as is from either pastebin or answers webpage.
Open a terminal: ctrl+alt+t
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/
Save the file and close it.
Afterwards update package list.
sudo apt-get update

apt.conf.d, preferences.d, sources.list.d, trusted.gpg.d, apt.conf, secring.gpg, sources.list, sources.list.save, trustdb.gpg, & trusted.gpg are the 10 items in 'sources.list.save' in 'apt'. And the 'sources.list' mentioned above is in 'sources.

Somehow I could remove it from the window of sources.list appeared. It is a Read-only file. I couldn't paste anything. But the sources.list is there in 'sources.list.save' (in apt). After that no sources.list appeared when I used Terminal.

In the last versions of Ubuntu, the Terminal window itself had provisions for opening Terminal, saving Files etc. But in the present version Desktop's name is the only item in the title bar. For all other things I have to go to the Top panel of the Desktop. In this panel the Terminal version shows (About)--"GNOME Terminal 2.32.1
